Medina County AAUW program Jan. 25, 2018

The Medina County branch of the American Association of University Women invited me to give a program on Ohio’s Titanic connections to their group on Jan. 25, 2018, at the Medina library. The organization really went all out in promoting the program and adding some special touches. One person brought her collection of Titanic-era women’s jewelry and fashion accessories, and the display attracted lots of interest. The members also put on a “tea” like one would have encountered in first class on the Titanic — tea and coffee, little pastries and baked goods and little tea sandwiches. A crowd of about 100 attended to learn about Ohio and the Titanic and get a taste of the era. Thanks to the Medina AAUW women for putting on a terrific event! Here are a few photos from the day.  — Mary Ann Whitley

A display of women’s jewelry and accessories from the Titanic era attracted lots of attention.

One of the program attendees brought this period ladies fan that she discovered at a sale and purchased. It appears to have a year’s worth of programs and presenters for a women’s group listed on the fan. Interestingly, one of the programs was “The Year 1912,” the same year the Titanic sank.
