Great Lakes Titanic Society Picnics

A group of Great Lakes/Cleveland, Ohio, area Titanic friends who call themselves the Great Lakes Titanic Society have gathered since 2006 for an August picnic at Headlands Beach State Park on the shores of Lake Erie. The first picnic came about at the suggestion of Titanic friends who live in Niles, Ohio, and thought the park would be a great spot for a picnic. The event became known as the “Great Lakes Titanic Society” picnic, as the GLTS name was one the group had used in 2002 to organize a conference when the Titanic artifact exhibit was in Cleveland. (Note: The goal of that conference was to raise funds for an Ohio Titanic Memorial. The memorial project was successful, and the bronze plaque on a granite boulder honors the Ohio-bound passengers in a landscaped area on the grounds of the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland.) Now this informal summer gathering of Titanic buffs is an event that everyone looks forward to. For several years, the date of the picnic coincided with the weekend of the summer Titanic International Society trustee meeting, held at one trustee’s family cottage in Findley Lake, New York, near Erie, Pennsylvania. So during that time, a number of out-of-town trustees visiting for the meeting were able to attend the picnic, which is about a 1½-hour drive from there. I wanted to share some photos of these enjoyable events over the last several years. Check out the individual pages I have created for photos from the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 picnics.

(Photos from picnics before 2012 can be found on the Great Lakes Titanic Society site, . Look under the GLTS Scrapbook page.)
